Have you ever been in a corporate meeting where words like strategy, synergy, or my all-time favorite triangulate get thrown around? I’ve been in far too many of those. But when I talk to real business people – people who roll up their sleeves and get things done – I rarely hear those words. Because that’s the language of overhead, not execution.
Have you ever hired a marketing person? They’ll tell you it’s all about creative, social media or the current hot topic, customer experience. “Change the name, get a new logo and offer a great experience” is their opening salvo – next they hire an agency and request more budget. But I rarely see them writing compelling content around actual products. Which is a shame because customers don’t buy logos, they buy products.
There’s just too much meaningless chatter going on out there. Enough to make your head explode.
Fortunately, many amazing things are also happening right now, and they’re incredibly exciting:
- Information is right there, immediately accessible
- Tools and technology are right there, open source and low cost
- People are right there, one click away and ready to help
The result is the world is shifting in your favor – it’s all right there and you can do a lot yourself. Just a little curiosity, a little determination, a little guidance and you can really make things happen. That’s where this site comes in.
Welcome to Brutal Business
This site is not about academic research. Nor buzzwords nor trends. And certainly not about corporate protocols around business or marketing. It’s the exact opposite of all that.
Brutal Business is about cutting through the noise and getting things done.
Here you’ll find ideas and how-to’s on things that work. Based on real-world experience. From a real-world guy that tried it every which way and realized that a street-wise, practical approach gets the job done faster and better.
I hope something in here helps, or at least amuses, you. Now, let’s get to work.
